Strange. I deleted (using manage) teh entire Windows x64 folder. But when I went to reinstall it I could not get Easy install option" to come ulp even though I selected "Typical on the first screen. Also I will install the OS later was pre-select. In fact, although I used two different Windows x64 disk it could not determine the OS type even after "rescaning" the disk. The host could read the contents perfectly. . Baffled I went to the .vmware (not the vmware folder) folder in my home direcotry. Reading the preferences this is what I found.

I'm not going to edit this file (because I don't need to for my purposes). Yet I find it puzzling. I suppose for example I could change the line
vmWizard.mode = "custom" to read "typical". Since this is a production forum and not a beta forum I don't feel it appropriate for me to go to these lengths.
It would be quite Easy 
for somebody to test this on Linux if they choose.
Nonthe ess these lines are pretty self explanatory. Windows 8-64 is pre-select.
