Is there anyway to get recompose history for past one year for Pool ? We have an audit requirement.

Thanks in advance

Yes, it should still dole out security updates via Windows Update so long as it is on Service Pack 1 as sven pointed out and provided the links. My apologies for the incorrect information.

VMWare workstation monitor.suspend_on_triplefault fails

Hi,

I'm having some trouble with vmware, i'm running a nested hypervisor (one which i devloped) within vmware workstation, and sometimes i receive the following message

VMware Workstation unrecoverable error: (vcpu-0)

vcpu-0:ASSERT vmcore/vmm/cpu/segment.c:679 bugNr=19580

A log file is available in "/home/asaf/vmware/Ubuntu/vmware.log".

You can request support.

I know this is a bug in my hypervisor, but i was wondering if someone from the vmware team or anyone else who knows, could tell me what kind of assertion had faild.

thanks.

It might be that returned result is actually an array.

Could you log myvar.getResults().getXml() and post it here.

This is the row output from executed script

Re: vmw_ahci I/O errors and corruption - 6.5 whitebox

I've managed to get over to the new hardware, but by using the community support AHCI VIB which uses the legacy driver.  I haven't noticed any corruption since moving away from vmw_ahci.

But I strongly recommend you do not run anything on the new driver.  Which is the default on any microserver - e.g. things that are using local SATA disks.

https://vibsdepot.v-front.de/wiki/index.php/Sata-xahci

It only says compatible with 6.0, but it seems to work fine with 6.5d.

I don't know how VMware consistently get AHCI so wrong given they had no problems back in 5.0.

I've tried everything you've recommended me to do and I also updated Workstation to version 12.5.7 but my problem has not disappeared.

Now, what can I do?

Thanks

Hi, I've experienced the same issue on a VNX 5200 storage and UCS Blades, so I had to rollback the esx updates.

Looks like the solution is behind the corner so I think I'll wait for the 6.5 U1 upgrade later in July.

Thanks everyone for sharing your experience with us.

Após atualização do VDP para 6.1, appliance não aparece para gerenciá-lo

Olá,

Atualizamos a versão do VDP para a 6.1, porem não é possível selecionar o novo appliance no drop-down do VDP para gerenciá-lo (aparece somente o nome da VM do appliance antigo);

Verificamos que existia um alerta de consistência no novo VDP, iniciando então o processo de verificação de integridade para verificar se este é o motivo da VM não estar na lista de appliances válidos no VDP, porem não obtivemos sucesso.

Acompanhamos a verificação pelo web client e também executando o comando "avmaint hfscheckstatus --ava" no ssh. O campo status estava como "completed" e o result deve estar como "OK";

Iniciamos o serviço de manutenção com o comando "dpnctl start maint". A partir deste momento, o alerta referente à integridade de checkpoints desapareceu, porem ainda não aparece o novo appliance no drop-down do VDP para gerenciá-lo.

---

Histórico de todo procedimento feito

-Inicialmente, foi perdido o vCenter, que estava na versão 5.5, instalado em servidor Windows;

-Foi criado um novo vCenter (VCSA), um novo datacenter e novo cluster, adicionando os mesmos hosts que estavam no vCenter anterior. Este novo vCenter, na versão 6.5;

-Após a criação do novo vCenter, verificamos que não existia compatibilidade entre o VDP 5.8 e o novo vCenter (plugin do VDP não aparecia no vCenter web client);

-Realizada tentativa de atualização do VDP 5.8 para 6.0.5 sem sucesso. Ocorreu problema por falta de espaço em um datastore. Abortamos a atualização;

-Com o problema de falta de espaço, tivemos que excluir o snapshot do VDP original;

-Para acelerar o processo, decidimos importar os discos de dados do VDP 5.8 em um novo appliance na versão 6.1 e recriar os jobs de backup. Procedimento finalizado com sucesso;

-A partir da importação e configuração do novo appliance e dos discos do appliance antigo, o plugin do VDP voltou a aparecer no web client;

-Não é possível selecionar o novo appliance no drop-down do VDP para gerenciá-lo (aparece somente o nome da VM do appliance antigo);

-Verifiquei que existia um alerta de consistência no novo VDP, iniciando então o processo de verificação de integridade para verificar se este é o motivo da VM não estar na lista de appliances válidos no VDP.

Re: VMWare workstation monitor.suspend_on_triplefault fails

That assertion is configured to fail whenever the virtual machine's CPU encounters a triple-fault.  Our assumption is that if you are running with debugging enabled, a triple-fault is an event that you're likely to want to capture and debug, so it's wired up to trigger a virtual machine monitor panic by means of raising an assertion failure.  It won't do this when the VM is configured with Gather debugging information set to anything other than Full.

With monitor.suspend_on_triplefault set, this should produce a pair of files named debug.guest (which is a trimmed-down .vmss file, not suitable for restoring the state of the whole VM, but containing enough CPU state to enable debugging) and debug.vmem (containing the state of the VM's memory).  Are those files not being produced?  Those two files should be suitable for use with vmss2core, which should be able to produce regular ELF corefiles from the VM's state at the time of the triple-fault.

Hi Tommy,

Please note that more recent versions of VMware Workstation already include support for newer kernels and don't need to be patched in this way.  I recommend upgrading to the latest version to ensure you've got the latest security and stability fixes in addition to compatibility with new Linux kernels.

Re: Made my VM partition too big, please help

So you already resized the partitions from inside the guest ?
Do you have one or  two partitions inside the guest ?
Anyway - create new vmdk just large enough to contain the resized partitions.
Do not format the new vmdk.
Boot into a Linux-LiveCD.
You should now find one disk /dev/sda with the original installation and another blank disk /dev/sdb.
Check the size required for the partitions in the original. Get the size in Mbs and add some space at the end so that you have a value that is devidable by 8. Assume this is X.
Then launch a terminal as root and run the command
dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb bs=1M count=X conv=notrunc
This will take a while.
Once it is done reboot the Linux LiveCD and launch gparted or gdisk.
Both have a tool to fix the partitiontable (required if your VMs used a GPT-table.
Once that is done - reconfigure the VM so that the newly created vmdk is the only one connected.
Now boot into Windows again - if everything worked you can then delete the original large vmdk.

Maybe your VM just uses an absolute path to the vmdk ?
To check - open the bundle to view the actual files and then open the vmx-file with a texteditor.
Check if the referenced vmdk-files exist in the correct location.
If not - just provide the correct path and filename.

Issue in creating a guest machine in a ESXi host in VMWare Workstation

Hello,

I have setup a lab environment in my machine with VMware workstation. In the workstation i have created a domain controller , ESXi host 6.0 , vcenter server applicance and mapped the ESXI host to the VCSA server. But  whenever i am trying to deploy  virtual machine in the esxi host ( through vcenter or directly through the esxi host) the host goes to unresponsive state.

Could someone help me in resolving this issue.

Issue has not reappear since I uninstalled the Bitdefender Anti-Virus (2017),

hence I am going to mark it as the cause of the issue.

Thanks for the help.
